As this was a fairly impromptu independent study course to save on resources the image was painted directly onto the paint shop floor.

I primed an appropriate area on the floor and used snapped lines and 3-4-5 triangles to make a true 10'x16' rectangle.  Then I created a one-foot grid and used this to make a cartoon of the image with charcoal. The paint was applied in various washes working from back to foreground.
